What is Black Friday?

Black Friday is a social and commercial phenomenon that arose in the United States. It’s the first Friday after Thanksgiving, which traditionally inaugurates the Christmas shopping season.

If you’re asking yourself what biker gift you want to give this year or you’re just looking for a bargain to renew your biker wardrobe, it’s the perfect date.

Where does Black Friday come from

There are three, more accepted theories as to the origin of Black Friday, and none are related to “Slave Sales” after Thanksgiving, as tends to go viral on social media every year.

The first refers to the state of bankruptcy that the United States financial system entered into on Friday 24th of September 1869, which was baptised as Black Friday.

The second refers to the traffic jams that are generated in New York due to the discounts that the shops offered the day after Thanksgiving. The jams became labelled as ‘Black’ by the New York Times in 1975.

And the third makes reference to when, at last, the small business started to go into the ‘black’, after this day of discounts, after being the rest of the year in the ‘Red’.

When is Black Friday 2024?

Black Friday 2024 is next Friday 29 of November. Although the date of Black Friday varies, as it depends on the Thanksgiving Holiday (which falls on the fourth Thursday of November), it usually falls within this month.

Black Friday week at Motocard
