The Alpinestars Patron Gore-Tex and the Dainese Universe Gore-Tex are two top long-range gloves designed for winter. Made with goatskin, they stand out for incorporating the famous Gore-Tex membrane and Gore Grip technology that offers an optimal touch. However, there are also some differences between them that we detail.
Materials and construction
Both the Alpinestars Patron Gore-Tex and the Dainese Universe Gore-Tex have the European conformity approval and are made almost entirely of goat leather multi-panel top quality. On the one hand, in the Universe we find reinforcements of goatskin and Amica suede on the palm and on the fingers for a good grip. On the other hand, the Patron are reinforced with PU coating on the palm and thumb to improve the same appearance. In addition, the Patron have synthetic suede reinforcements with padding on the palm and the outer side of the hand for greater resistance to abrasion.
Both models are equipped with the well-known Gore-Tex membrane, the best on the market, waterproof and breathable. In addition, they incorporate Gore Grip technology, which consists of the union of several layers of the glove that are normally loose to avoid movement between them and reduce, in turn, the thickness. The result? An optimal touch and greater dexterity for a secure grip.
The shape of the fingers is pre-curved but maybe something more in the Universe. The comfort is better and reduces fatigue considerably.
The mixture between soft inserts and elastic inserts are characteristic of the two models. In the Alpinestars, the ergonomic elastic insert, developed by the brand, located between the palm and the thumb to facilitate greater freedom of movement is one of the main features. Also in the Patron, we see accordion inserts on the back and fingers. Thanks to this aspect, with the glove on, flexibility is much greater.
The most important protections in both gloves are found in the knuckles. On the one hand, the Patron equips a new PU viscoelastic foam compound developed by Alpinestars. It is ergonomically designed to offer excellent performance, comfort and shock absorption and is also covered with leather for more durability.
On the other hand, the Universe have thermoformed Techno protections in the same area, being very resistant in case of impact or fall also covered with leather.
The palms of the two models are reinforced. In the Universe we find polyurethane inserts while in the Patron we see an ergonomically shaped TPU slider to help protect the hand.
Also in the Patron model is necessary to emphasize the union of the fourth and fifth finger patented by Alpinestars, that prevents the torsion and the excessive separation of the fingers in case of accident.
The reflective details are found in the two gloves. These help us to be more visible in night driving or in low light.
Details and closing
Thanks to the Dainese Smart Touch system we can manipulate touch screens without removing the Universe. In the case of the Patron, the tips of the index and thumb fingers are also compatible with touch screens.
The left hand of the Dainese Universe incorporates Wiper Visor, a soft and flexible TPR element, to easily clean dirt or water from the helmet screen. In the Patron we also find a similar element to clean the visor.
Both the closure of the Universe and the Patron have in common that they are made up of a strip with Velcro on the wrist to prevent the glove from being removed. Regarding the differences, in the cuff of the Universe we have a double Velcro closure and in the Patron we have a Velcro closure and details in silicone relief for a better fit when closing the glove.
In short, each with its particular features and benefits, the Alpinestars Patron Gore-Tex and the Dainese Universe Gore-Tex are the bets of the two major Italian brands as perfect gloves for winter and the coldest months of the year but maintaining an excellent touch. Their greaat finishes make them ideal for long routes under extreme climatic conditions.
