Shoei Neotec 3 vs Shoei Neotec 2 helmet, differences

The main difference between the Shoei Neotec 3 and the Neotec 2 is the homologation. The Neotec 3 is ECE 2206 certified, the most demanding type approval to date. This new standard has many more impact test points and a rotational test. In addition, all external helmet accessories (e.g. intercom) must be approved for the specific helmet model.

In any case, keep in mind that the two regulations will coexist for a few more years and the ECE 2205 is still valid for circulation. What does not change, however, is that both have the double P/J homologation, which allows them to legally circulate with the chin guard open.

The chin guard mechanism of the Shoei Neotec 3 has been renewed.

Precisely, in order to have this ECE 2206 homologation, the Shoei Neotec 3 must have some specific features, such as the new 360 Pivot Locking System made of stainless steel. This is undoubtedly one of the novelties compared to the previous generation and is a response to the new homologation.

Where we do not find too many differences is on the outside, as the design is very continuous. The only thing that changes is the rear spoiler, much more pronounced on the Shoei Neotec 3.

The screen is another major difference between the two helmets.

Another major difference between the Shoei Neotec 3 and the Neotec 2 is the screen. The new generation has a larger display and, above all, a central locking system. In addition, it has a new rubber contour of the screen opening for better sealing compared to the previous generation.

The sun visor is also different, as the one on the Shoei Neotec 3 is 5mm longer than the previous one. In this way, we also avoid the appearance of any reflexes. The really important thing about this visor is that the mechanism has been repositioned away from the ear area to avoid possible wind noise.

The interior padding is also new

We continue with the differences since the inner side padding of the Shoei Neotec 3 has also been renewed. They are made of different fabrics depending on the head area and the base is wider for better fit and insulation.

What remains unchanged, of course, is that they are still removable and washable upholstery.

Shoei Neotec 3’s closure is much more compact

Another difference is the micrometric closure. Yes, it is the same type of clasp, but it has been renewed with respect to the Neotec 2, as it is now much more compact, as is the strap (much thinner). In both cases, however, they are made of stainless steel.

One last detail: the motorcycle intercom

And finally, we could not forget a detail that if you have the previous Shoei Neotec 2 will interest you and surely, you will not like too much. The previous intercom is not compatible with the new model and you will need to purchase an adapter for it. In any case, keep in mind that, even if it is pre-installed for a specific intercom, you will have no problem installing any universal intercom.

Shoei Neotec 3 vs Neotec 2, which is better?

The big question: which one is better? Evidently, the two motorcycle helmets are among the best modular motorcycle helmets. The Shoei Neotec 2 continues to be a great option, as the two homologations will coexist for a few years. Shoei is known for its high safety performance thanks to internal testing before its products reach the market, and the Neotec 2, as we say, is a great modular helmet.

On the other hand, the Shoei Neotec 3 is undoubtedly the perfection of a helmet that was already very good, with tweaks and features that make it one of the 3 best modular motorcycle helmets currently.

I have a Neotec 2 and it is a bit on the heavy side. Not much wind circulation since I live in a hot climate country.
Got an AGV instead. Much lighter and better wind circulation

I had a Nolan N104 and I bought the Neotec 2 thinking it was better.
After 4 month of daily use, I don’t see any point that the Shoei is superior to the Nolan.
The Neotec is heavy, noisy from 60km/h speed and have a poor visor ergonomics.
    Avoid it.
