The Exo-1400 Air is the new sport-touring full-face helmet from Scorpion, a helmet that stands out for its sporty aesthetics, lightness and improved acoustics. This is the evolution of the successful Exo-1200 Air model, now with an improved screen mechanism and ventilation system. It is also commercialized in a Carbon version that we explain below.
The new Exo-1400 Air has ECE 22.05 approval and is made with a structure called Thermodynamical Composite Technology (TCT). The shell is fiberglass, offering incredible levels of protection. In case of impact it is capable of bending gradually allowing to absorb the energy generated by it and maintaining its solid structure.
The helmet is also available in Carbon version. The main advantage is that we find a reduction in weight compared to the fiberglass version.
The helmet is sold in three sizes of outer shell for a better fit to each user and has an approximate weight of 1450 grams in the fiberglass version and 1400 in the Carbon model.
The ventilation system of the new helmet is somewhat more sophisticated than in the Exo-1200 Air. Now it has an air inlet in the area of ââthe chin bar and another upper one that absorbs a greater air flow.
In the rear spoiler we find two exit holes that guarantee the total extraction of humidity and hot air inside and also greatly enhances the aerodynamics of the helmet.
In addition, all air inlets are easily manipulated with all kinds of gloves.
The Exo-1400 Air has the excellent Ellip-Tec mechanism. This system offers a hermetism and isolation of the incredible outside noise. To achieve these levels of soundproofing the mechanism has been conceived and tested in the wind tunnel to limit noise at high speeds as much as possible.
Ellip-Tec system is characterized by offering greater resistance to keep the screen in place in case of fall and the opening system, since only by pressing the central cam, it is unlocked and we can raise and lower it without problems, also with gloves. For its part, the system called Speedshift allows us to disassemble the screen without the use of tools in less than 10 seconds.
The integrated sun visor is called Speedview; It is easily replaceable and has anti-fog treatment on both sides. The drive is located on the left side of the screen.
The Pinlock Maxvision, the best on the market and comes standard with the helmet, integrates perfectly with the screen, preventing condensation from forming, even with accentuated temperature changes.
In the Carbon version, in addition to the clear screen, a dark smoked screen prepared also for the installation of the Pinlock is included.
The padding is known as Kwikwick3 and incorporates an anti-allergic treatment. In addition, it offers an excellent absorption of moisture and stands out for being very comfortable, soft to face and elastic contact, adapting to the features of each.
Logically, the padding is removable and washable and the sides are optimized for the users of glasses.
And like in many Scorpion Exo helmets, the Exo-1400 Air also has the exclusive Airfit system, which allows inflating and deflating the side cushions through a pump located near the chin, providing a perfect fit to the shape of the face and reducing the noise level.
Closure and details
The closure is double ring, the safest on the market, and titanium, an improvement over its predecessor. The helmet incorporates a cover to reduce fog and cover the chin, which also minimizes outside noise.
It also highlights the system of emergency extraction of the lateral padding in case of accident.
In short, the new Scorpion Exo-1400 Air, both in its Carbon and Standard version, is a very versatile and functional helmet thanks to its innovative features, which include the new screen, the Airfit system and its successful acoustics. Its good value for money and the different graphics make it a helmet to take into account in your next acquisition.
