Review: Shark Race-R Pro Sykes, Kawasaki’s ambassador

Reviews and tests 19 October, 2016

We analyze...

The Shark Race-R Pro Tom Sykes Replica helmet is a Shark's tribute to the 2013 Superbikes World Champion, Tom Sykes. A helmet that features graphics plenty of meanings.

The Race-R Pro

The Race-R Pro is the racing version of the Shark’s helmets range. It features a multifiber shell, an advanced aerodynamic lines and a lightweight of 1.300 grams. Its ventilation system has been optimised for a sporty riding and the interiors offer an optimal adjustment to our head. That is why some of best riders use this helmet: Tom Sykes, Jorge Lorenzo, Johann Zarco and Scott Redding, and many others.

Tom Sykes’ graphics

We know that a helmet’s design is a rider’s hallmark. It allows us to recognise him/her on the track and on the helmet we can discover some clues about a rider’s personality. Despite there are many riders who change their helmet’s graphics often, Tom Sykes is an ‘old school’ rider regarding this: he uses the same graphics over the years, when he joined the Kawasaki Racing Team on Superbikes by 2011.

The helmet keeps the symmetrical lines in both sides.

The graphics are easily to recognize. There are an intense orange colour, combined with the green and some silver lines. On the top of the helmet we can see five Japanese words. They mean “Power, Success, Courage, Faith and Karma”. Each one of these words represent the will a World Champion rider needs, as Tom confessed.

These concepts are repeating them on the sides, on a ‘Matrix’ effect, combined with the Akashi’s brand main colour. The relationship between Sykes and Kawasaki is very close, because the English rider could win the first SBK World Championship for Kawasaki after twenty years.

The graphics of this replica helmet are exactly the same than we can find on Tom’s helmet, with details like the Tom’s favourite number 66 on the rear area and the name of the designer, “Duff’Aero” in the chin. So, for those Kawasaki and Tom Sykes fans, here we have the helmet that uses the British rider, a portion of motorcycling history.
