Shoei VFX-WR, an off-road helmet for the most daring

We analyze...

The Shoei VFX-WR arrives on the market as the evolution of the successful VFX-W, an off-road helmet with the latest technological advances designed for true lovers of motocross and enduro. An aggressive and extremely sporty helmet with endless graphics that will not leave anyone indifferent.

Shell

The new Shoei VFX-WR has the European certificate of conformity and its weight is around 1,300 grams for a size M. The whole helmet offers a light and strong structure, and is designed to be worn with extreme piloting.

The outer shell (external structure) is made of AIM + (Advanced Integrated Matrix), an organic fiber composite and multi-layer fiber composite with optimal impact stiffness.

The outer shell also acquires a very modern and sporty design thanks to the different integrated spoilers, which offer maximum performance and maximum aerodynamic efficiency.

The helmet is marketed with four sizes of outer shell for a better fit to the physical complexion of each rider.

The chin rest has been redesigned with respect to the predecessor model and is now more integrated with the helmet assembly, in addition to being larger, thus increasing the air flow in the interior. If we observe the helmet we see how it draws very aggressive lines in the front, making it clear that we are facing a helmet designed to offer high performance in all kinds of conditions.

Shoei VFX-WRAs we see the helmet draws a very aggressive line, designed for the most demanding riders.

As for the inner shell, it is made of three densities EPS, one more than in the VFX-W, thus allowing a high degree of shock absorption.

In addition, the inner shell of the VFX-WR incorporates an important innovation called Motion Energy Distribution System (MEDS), included for the first time in the manufacture of an off-road helmet: it consists of an additional layer of EPS that reduces the energy of rotational acceleration transmitted to the head in case of accident, thus reducing the risks of brain injury. To understand it better let’s say that this additional layer oscillates during the collision, allowing the entire EPS layer to act and thus increase the rider’s safety.

Undoubtedly, it is one of the most technologically advanced systems currently available among cross-country and enduro helmets.

Visor

The new visor is completely integrated into the helmet design compared to the previous model. It is removable and adjustable by means of three plastic pivots that do not require the use of tools, flexible and has very defined lines that offer very little resistance to air.

Shoei VFX-WRThe visor of the new Shoei VFX-WR has also experienced improvements compared to its predecessor, now more integrated in the helmet assembly.

In addition, its shape ensures sufficient upward visibility and excellent protection against the sun, stones and mud when you go full gas.

Ventilation

The innovative ventilation system consists of air inlets in the front and upper area of the helmet, larger than in the previous model. In the back we find air extractors located in the spoiler, in the neck and also in the sides of the neck area for an effective internal cooling. As good off-road helmet, all the entrances and exits of air incorporate a metallic mesh with a very thin foam that avoids the entrance of stones.

Inside

The central padding and side pads are made of highly breathable and quick-drying 3D Max-Dry fabric. In addition, the helmet is marketed with different sizes of pads for a perfect fit to each user.

All interior padding is completely removable and washable and the strap cover is also removable and washable. Very important in a helmet that is designed to get dirty very often.

Shoei VFX-WRThe inside of the helmet offers a very pleasant touch to the face and this is removable and washable.

We can ensure that the area that is in contact with the forehead and cheeks is really comfortable. It is an interior perfectly studied and adapted to our head which allows to reduce to the minimum expression the movements of the helmet while we practice off-road.

Closure and details

And speaking of the closure, this is a double ring, as we know the safest in the market, easy to manipulate and which allows a personalized adjustment at all times.

Other features that do not go unnoticed are: the Emergency Quick Release System (EQRS) that facilitates the removal of the helmet from the outside in case of accident, removing quickly and safely the side cushions, and removable nose protector design.

If you are an off-road lover and you are looking for the best of the best in terms of equipment, the Shoei VFX-WR is a great option to do everything with your bike.

My head measurement would indicate an XL size, but my Shoei GT Air street helmet size large fits perfectly – should I drop down to a Large size in the VFX-EVO as well?
