Review: Alpinestars Cordoba Drystar, price value for winter

Reviews and tests 2 March, 2016

We analyze...

The Alpinestars Cordoba Drystar is a jacket that features the Drystar waterproof layer by Alpinestars, and also a thermal inner, very suitable for cold periods and with an excellent good value for money.

Construction and materials

The jacket’s main textile is the 600 Denier, a very resistant to the wear fabric, that has a water repellent polymer treatment. The jacket includes sealed sewings and the Drystar membrane. All this ensures a 100% waterproof and breathable product.

On the inside we find a long sleeved thermal layer. This inner is removable, and if we choose to ride without it, we will find the Drystar layer, attached to the jacket and non-removable. We have to highlight the neck and the end of sleeves, with a skin friendly material. The jacket also provides a precurved sleeves for an optimum confort when riding the bike.

The Climate Control System mantains a good ventilation on the jacket’s inside, thanks to a couple of air inlets placed on the frontal area of the shoulders. The air is distributed on its inside for an optimum ventilation.

The main protections are placed in the shoulders and the elbows. These are called Bio-Armor and they are rigid protectors that offer flexibility and are homologated. But we also fins padding areas in critical areas, as the back and the chest. These padded protectors can be replaced for Alpinestars Nucleon rigid protections, but these are not included with the jacket’s purchase.

Closures and pockets

The main closure is a YKK zipper with velcro flap that ensures a good isolation. In the neck we find a velcro finish, the same material that adjusts this Alpinestars at the end of the sleeves and the waist, while in the forearms we find button adjustments.

The jacket features forearms adjustments (left) and orifices on the pockets to evacuate water and humidity (right).

If we talk about the pockets, there are two main pockets in the frontal area with two  different spaces: two with velcro closures, another two with zipper. On the inside there are two internal pockets with velcro closure and a third on the internal flap (waterproof). The inner also fetaures two extra pockets, so the jacket will offer always five pockets, with or without the thermal linning.

Other details are the connection zipper, if we want to attach Alpinestars pants, and the reflective inserts, for being seen in low light situations.

Versatile, light and comfortable, the Alpinestars Cordoba Drystar are ideal for those who want a waterproof jacket with thermal inner, all these at a low price and also want the quality of a brand as Alpinestars.
