Review: Alpinestars Bionic Plus 2016, the offroad soft protector

Reviews and tests 24 February, 2016

We analyze...

The Alpinestars Bionic Plus is a protection for motocross and enduro fans who are looking for a lightweight and integrated system and prefer soft to rigid protections. This protective dresses like an inner jacket and will cover our chest, back, shoulders and elbows to provide full protection integrated into a highly flexible fabric.

Made of an elastic mesh technique named Spandex, the Alpinestars Bionic Plus protection fully embraces us around the back and the torso. The elastic mesh is perforated so it is highly breathable.
Inserted into this elastic mesh, there are the protections, placed on the chest, back and arms, along with various additional padding. This construction makes possible to reduce the weight, offering greater flexibility.

The protections we find in the chest and back are made of EVA foam, a material capable of absorbing impacts’ energy, providing a whole light weight and flexibility. The back protector is made with several panels, so it provides enough rigidity  to the area, giving full flexibility.
In the shoulders and elbows there are low profile protectors, designed to withstand impacts. Furthermore, its shape is asymmetrical, offering small differences between left and right side.
These protections (back, shoulders and elbows) are CE certified at level 1.

We should mention that the logos and decorations we find on the Alpinestars Bionic Plus are printed on silicon, for an improved grip of the T-shirt to our body.

Compatibility with neck brace

The Alpinestars Bionic Plus is compatible with the neck brace Alpinestars Bionic Neck Support. And for its proper installation, the upper chest and padded back panels can be removed according to offer a better fitting to the neck brace. We also find two flexible tabs for an optimal fit.

This protection is flexible and light, so it is also compatible with other protective garments we can eventually fit, such as jackets. Finally, the main closure is a YKK zipper.
The Alpinestars Bionic Plus protector has been tested in competition by riders like the Dakar’s champion Marc Coma. Its great advantage is to offer a complete torso protection with a low weight and high ventilation and flexibility.
