The types of motorcycle gloves can be quickly divided into 3 large families according to the type of motorcycle we have: touring, sports and urban. Each of them has certain characteristics.

Sport motorcycle gloves

If you like sporty riding, racing motorcycle gloves are the best choice. These aremotorcycle gloves made of highly resistant materials, usually leather or fur, and offer exceptional protection as they are designed for riding at high speeds.

They usually have rigid protectors on the knuckles, palms and joints, as well as double-stitched areas for durability. Safety and performance are the main features of these gloves.

On the other hand, sports motorcycle gloves offer a great feel at the controls of the bike, and some of them often have pre-curved fingers to offer great ergonomics. And finally, they are motorcycles gloves that are usually long-cuffed and lightweight and may have a summer version with micro-perforated material.

Motorcycle touring gloves, ideal for travelling

Secondly, there are touring motorcycle gloves. Generally, these are long-sleeved motorcycles gloves, as they are designed to cover a lot of kilometres on the bike. Comfort is also their main feature for the same reason and they usually have knuckle protections and reinforcements in the most worn areas, but without reaching the level of the protection of sports motorbike gloves. They usually have a waterproof membrane and the winter ones have a thermal lining.

They may be made of leather or textile material.

Urban motorcycle gloves, perfect for city riding

On the other hand, there are urban motorcycle gloves. These are very light gloves with a more sober and elegant design, designed for short trips within the city, so they are usually short-legged motorcycle gloves, with simple protections and are designed to offer maximum comfort. They may also have a waterproof membrane and lining.

Motorcycle trail or offroad gloves, specific for off-road use.

And finally, there are the trail or offroad gloves, designed to leave the asphalt and perfect for motocross or enduro. They are specifically designed to offer great freedom of movement and are very light, without too much protection on the knuckles and with a short shaft.

They are usually made of textile material and have reinforcements in critical areas. On the other hand, we could not forget another classification of motorcycle gloves, not so much by motorcycle segment, but by their characteristics.

Before buying motorcycle gloves it is important to analyze your needs: Do you live in a very hot area? A short cuffed, ventilated glove may be an option. If, on the other hand, you are going on long trips, it is important to choose a motorcycle glove with a slightly longer and more versatile shaft.

Remember to choose a motorcycle glove that is comfortable for the type of bike and riding you do, and to choose the right size to ensure you have a good feel for the bike’s controls. Remember that safety must always be a priority when driving.
