We advise you about...
We tell some advice for knowing how not to get wet on the bike. There’s nothing more unpleasant than being soaked to the skin whilst riding our motorcycle.
Knowing how to ride a motorcycle in the rain is very important. Similarly, knowing how not to get wet on the bike is basic for our safety and comfort. There’s nothing more unpleasant that being soaked to the skin whilst riding our motorcycle, whether it’s a trip in the rain or for daily use.
So in this post, we’re going to go over some advice on how to kit up when it rains.
Forget the rest, Gore-tex is the best
OK, it’s possible that many of us have turned to some household trick when we’ve been caught in the rain and we’re not properly equipped. Yes, that’s right: a bin bag and a newspaper to protect us against the cold might have been the solution in an emergency.
We’ve often said it on the channel: the best waterproof membrane on the market is Gore-tex. It allows us to stay dry and affords great breathability. Also, we find it in all segments: jackets, pants, gloves and boots. You can take a look at the video we made about membranes.
Anyway, there are other quality membranes, such as the Dainese D-Dry, the Alpinestars Drystar, the Spidi H2Out, etc.
In our web you can use the filter with all our waterproof motorcycle gear. There are many ranges and segments. Many to choose from and for all pockets.
A quality waterproof garment is perfect for extreme cases
When taking a motorcycle trip in the rain, although our gear is waterproof, you can get extreme situations. In these cases, a quality waterproof garment will get us out of a situation. In these cases, there are one or two piece rain suits.
For example, the Dainese Storm jacket and pants is the best of its segment. Or, a one piece suit like the Dainese Rain or the Alpinestars Hurricane could be a solution. All of them allow you to store them comfortably in a backpack, for example, for when rain threatens.
What’s important is that, whatever you choose, the waterproof garment insulates you from the wind and water, that it has details such as adjustable cuffs, reflective finishes or that the zips are thermosealed.
Don’t let your garments flap
Apart from choosing a quality garment, it’s also important to get the right size, a detail that can be somewhat complicated, as we have to put the waterproofs over the motorcycle gear.
What’s most important is that the waterproofs are not too loose, that way we’ll avoid flapping on the motorcycle. Basically that we avoid the appearance of that bothersome effect where the garment hits us with the wind.
There are waterproofs that cover the suit, as is the case of the Alpinestars Racing Rain jacket and pants. In this case the anti-flapping effect is much more important.
For a scooter motorcycle, a leg cover or thermal blanket
If you’re a scooter motorcycle user, you could think about the option of getting a waterproof, thermal blanket like the Tucano Urbano Linuscud or an interesting variant like the Tucano Urbano Panta-Fast, which lets you easily cover your legs. If you live in an area where it rains often and you normally get around on a motorcycle, this could be a great solution.
Motorcycle accessories for the rain, to bear in mind
On the other hand, there are various motorcycle accessories devised exclusively for the rain and that could be a good investment.
For example, some Overgloves like the Tucano Urbano Gordon nano Plus or some Dainese Rain overshoes, these are a great option for occasional cases. But, if you normally ride your motorcycle in the rain, then maybe you need other types of gear like the Gore-tex membrane we mentioned before.
How to ride a motorcycle in the rain, some tips
Apart from the gear, there are some tips for riding your motorcycle in the rain.
For example, it’s important to avoid treading on the white lines (they’re like ice when wet), bear in mind the braking distance (much longer when the ground is wet), avoid puddles, be gentle with the gas, etc.
Bonus track
And a bonus track: don’t forget to install your Pinlock sheet on the screen of the helmet. You’ll find it very useful in the rain.
