For example, some of the waterproof jackets offer 8,000mm protection allowing for comfortable riding in light rain and some Gore-Tex® offer up to 20,000mm for the most extreme conditions.
What is Gore-Tex® 2L?
The 2L or 2-layer Gore-tex® membrane is formed by an outer fabric and inner fabric of micropore Gore-Tex® PTFE layer, forming a unit (2 layers). The Gore-Tex® 2L is very versatile and considered to be the standard as it is breathable and soft to the touch.
The 3L or 3-layer Gore-Tex® is formed by a laminate containing the same elements as the 2-layer Gore-Tex®: outer fabric + inner fabric of PTFE + inner lining. The difference is that the 3 layers are joined together and feel as though there is only one layer. This type of Gore-Tex® is more resistant and waterproof than the previous 2-layer. This Gore-Tex® is for more demanding conditions.
